Treatment

Our intervention program is not a cure, but rather the beginning of the healing process. Impact on Families is a unique program because we make parents an integral part of the treatment and assessment process. We offer the opportunity for both you and your kids to develop a working partnership by focusing on making changes within yourselves and the family. This initial phase of treatment is crucial, and can help your family to develop lifelong habits and routines that will lead to better family relationships, decision making, and overall healthier lifestyles.

It is often hard to seek professional help for your child. One of the most common fears parents have is that their teenager will be angry or unable to forgive them for "betraying" them by contacting outside help. While this is an understandable fear, consider which is most important, helping someone you love at the risk they will be upset, or standing by and watching them self-destruct?

We also recognize that once parents have asked for help, things at home have often become unbearable. Sometimes parents have lost hope that they will ever be able to talk with their child again. The likelihood of successful treatment will increase as a result of improved communication, recognition of the need for change, and increased motivation to change. We will do our best to help open up the lines of communication between you and your child. At the same time, we will focus on increasing your child's motivation and desire to change their relationship with you.

Your teenager or young adult may not be willing to participate in treatment because they are afraid of being identified as "the problem" and feel they are being forced into treatment. Recognizing there is a problem with your family relationships and acknowledging you are willing to work alongside them, is the best gift you could ever give your teenager.

We recognize that many parents are anxious about getting their teenagers the help they need. Traditional treatment options have resulted in teenagers being away from home for significant periods of time. Impact On Families is an innovative program designed to try and help families remain together. If this option is not advisable, we are committed to helping you understand what your treatment options are, and why it may be best for your child to leave home for a period of time.

Pre-Program Assessment and Preparation

Prior to coming to the program you will complete the following assessments:

  • Personality Testing
  • Communication Styles
  • Parenting Inventory Styles
  • Child Inventory Behavior Checklist

After completing these assessments, our team will meet with you by phone to go over the results. By the time you reach the program, you should have a better understanding of who you are, how you communicate, and parent your child. Our team will spend an average of 10 hours preparing you and your family so you will get the most out of your stay at Impact on Families. The suggestions given to you will be individually tailored to fit your family dynamics.
